Gatot Nurmantyo was told by Emirates airline moments before boarding a flight to Washington that the US Custom and Border Protection had denied him entry, Indonesian Defence Force spokesman Brig Gen Wuryanto said. "The Indonesian embassy in Washington DC has sent a diplomatic note to the US secretary of state to ask for clarification," Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said in a press statement. The US embassy in Jakarta issued a statement late Sunday confirming that Dunford had indeed invited the Indonesian military chief to attend a Chiefs of Defense Conference on Countering Violent Extremism in Washington from Monday to Tuesday.
